Tai Chi Chuan: A Postmodern, metaphysical point of view
In this article, Dr Mayer encapsulates his post-modern view of Tai Chi Chuan that each practitioner can honor the classical training curriculum of Tai Chi Chuan and then bring to it the experience and meanings that are unique to that practitioner. In this light, each Tai Chi movement can be looked at as having four dimensions of purpose: self-healing, spiritual unfoldment, self-defense, and changing one's life stance psychologically. In this sense, Tai Chi is a tradition of postural initiation and can be used to change an individual's life stance (on many levels.) In this article, and in Michael's books (2004, 2007, 2009, 2012), you'll learn about the "spiritual" and "soulful" dimensions of Tai Chi Chuan and its associated internal martial arts.
